FTB found a house, but worried about something...

Why don't you go and hang out there yourself and see what's what. Better than guessing or worrying.0

Go talk to the kids - tell them you're thinking of moving there, and you'd like to know what the area is like. Do they know if there's much for younger kids to do around there?
If they're the kind of kids you don't dare talk to, you probably won't want the house. Otherwise, talking to them might be much more helpful to you in making your decision than talking to us!0 -

Thanks. I was feeling very very anxious about this but I know we can just pull out and its best to do it now rather than down the line when we have spent money. I dont have to take this house and I should not feel compelled to do it0

You don't have to buy it at all .... but, you owe it to yourself to 'hang out' at the property on an evening - see if there is an issue.
The Car Insurance hike is a concern actually, they know things we don't - their cash depends on knowing areas where cars are parked.
Only you can decide - talking to the kids is an excellent idea as mentioned above.
These kids will grow up and either get into alcohol and drugs ... or grow up and hang about in town!Bringing Happiness where there is Gloom!0 -

I had thought about them growing up and the coke cans becoming needles etc. I have been there this evening, no kids. But who knows. The price hike is a massive concern, where I live now is on a fairly newish estate (about 15 years old) and is very safe and a cul de sac. Have seen another house, similar but £200k instead of £190k (which we got just short of £180) which the other one was, (max budget £180k possibly bit more) but I can only but try0 -
Always, always, always buy the best you can afford.
Put an offer of what you can afford in on anything you really like but think is too expensive - all they can say is no.
Never ignore a gut feeling, these feelings are rarely wrong!Bringing Happiness where there is Gloom!0 -
hi,
you may have already made up your mind, but just to add my slice.
Unless you are very rich and can afford a first house in the middle of no where, you will probably get some kids around.
We live in a supposedly 'nice' area but occasionally we get kids outside, they are local kids with nothing to do apart from hang around. Twice (maybe three times) in 8 years, during the school summer holidays I've had to go out and ask them to keep the noise down a bit or go somewhere else. I spoke nicely and explained that i've got kids in bed and would they mind... and guess what? they moved.
obviously i don't know the area you are talking about and i don't know the kids, but the lucazade bottles (and not cheap cider bottles)say to me that maybe they wouldn't be terrible drunken idiots.
If you like the house, and this is the only thing putting you off then I would say don't worry to much, maybe have a drive round there tomorrow and then saturday night and see whats going on. then make up your mind.
good luck0 -
Its difficult...
You lot are great. I need to sleep on it0 -
You sleep on it.
Bear in mind that you may well see kids and Lucazade bottles dancing around the lampshade!!
