A surge in fraudsters using old-fashioned but complex telephone scams to con bank customers into revealing their card details has hit the UK, police warned today.

Some fraudsters are not only posing as people's banks on the phone but even sending round official-seeming couriers to collect cards from them, after having obtained their PIN.

"We want to card to check the usage" ? Well, I suppose some people would fall for it.

I would have put one of my finest runny turds in an envelope and sealed it up tight.

I take it you got the registration of the vehicle the courier arrived in or did they arrive by bus.

I should have done it but unfortunately didn`t do it.

That shameless B****** called again and asked me if I had a cll from "their" department. I told him to get lost as I will contact the fraud detection team my self. Then he wasasking about my liked account to the card (which is with another bank)......

What a cheek. These con artists have no scruples. Definately a warning to others.

How did they get your contact details in the first place? I would advise that you register with the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) to 'hide' your tel. number from telemarketing and the general public. We registered with TPS and have not had any unscrupulous phone calls in 4 years.

The courier could be perfectly legitimate courier company. Very difficult to tell in advance.

Registering with the TPS does not "hide" your telephone number from anyone - in fact it adds it to a list of numbers which is made available to TPS licensees to screen against.

A fraudster is not going to care whether you're on the TPS or not.
