solicitors fees

I have a quick question regarding solicitors fees for buying a flat - should these be pretty standard throughout the country?

Because I paid £1,200 to buy a flat in Hull in 2005, but now I've now moved down south (to Hitchin) and I've been quoted close to £3,000 by a couple of solicitors for a flat down here

I've had an offer accepted on a flat, so I need to choose one pretty soon.

Why should they cost more down south? surely they are only providing the same service?

Any help appreciated!

Steve

It's costing me £600 for a house purchase in North Yorkshire! Does that include stamp duty?

    Steven,
why not use an online solicitor/conveyancer?

We are using one, and the sale is costing somewhere in the region of £400, the purchase around £800 - Stamp duty excluded of course.

If you search the forums for online conveyancing or similar, I expect you will unearth several threads on the topic.

We are using conveyancing warehouse, and a friend of mine is having a good experience with e-conveyancing.
