Evening , I applied for dla for my son 5 weeks ago as he has a few medical problems with his heart and seizures and other problems , I done the application online and also posted to them copies of letters from consultant .
I havent heard anything back from dla dept until today where I received a letter stating my key responsibilities as an appointed person for my son and that i must act in his best interests , report any changes, not take a fee from him ect ect .
Has anyone else received this letter before if so what does it mean ? has he been awarded dla ?
I have never claimed any benefits before so am confused by everthing.
Thanks for reading.

I got the same letter, my son is 13. It just means that because he is a child, you are acting as his guardian for the application. It doesn't actually mean he has dla, they are obviously still considering that.0

The Benefits Agency have made you your sons legal appointee. You will now be responsible for all your sons dealings / money paid / etc .. .. until six months or so before his 16th birthday when both your son and yourself will be re-interviewed to decide whether he wishes to take control of his own money as an adult at 16 years of age.
NOTE : When a young person reaches 16, they have the right to manage their own money or ask someone else to do this for them, claim benefits in their own right etc.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. the actual decision can take upto 12 weeks, but after 8 weeks you can contact them for an update0

I would recommend calling every couple of weeks at most.
While it's unlikely in any particular case, a small percentage of post goes astray.
If the letter saying you're not granted DLA does not reach you, and you don't check up within the month you have to appeal, your right to appeal is sharply limited, and conditional on their goodwill.0
