Lost NCB

Was insured with same company for years with no claims or convictions etc. Built up max NCB. About 3 years ago their renewal was easily beaten on a comparison site. So I went with the new company. The following year changed company again with an even cheaper quote. On the 3rd year I used the comparison site and got a cheaper quote. The new company wanted proof of NCB. I finally realised it was with the company I wad with for years. Contacted them. But they refused to give proof of NCB as I had left them more than 2 years previous. Contacted the insurance ombudsman who said it was at the insurance company's discretion if they want to give proof of NCB and they are not legally required to.
Question is. Now I'm back to 0 NCB (well, 1year now as I have just completed 1 year with green insurance) is there anything I can do to claim back my NCB. I've had no claims or convictions in 20 years if driving apart from a non fault claim this year which was settled by the other parties insurance as it was his fault.

Do you not have copy schedules or renewal notices from each company showing your NCB?0

When you left them the first time round you should have got a proof of NCD which you give to your new insurer, when you left them at the end of the year and went to Green Insurance you provide them with the proof of NCD and they add another year onto it you give that to your new / original insurer
From what you've said it sounds like you haven't given the proof of NCD to any insurers and started each year with none - hence having 1 year from Green Insurance. The insurance company are right in not issuing you with any proof as, putting it bluntly, you did it wrong.0
