Horfield is a brilliant place to live as it is called the golden triangle the reason for this is it is central to everything it is on the route to town which is a five min drive away, a bus ride from the mall shopping centre, not far from the motorway, near to the hospital.

there is a local leisure centre, they sell farmers market food each month at a local centre, theres a local police station and some local shops, pubs, bakers

not far to travel to many jobs, there is the MOD about five mins away and a local retail park with next clearance, tj hughes, wooworths, pets, matalan, shoe shop, jjb sports and not far from aztec west which has many office jobs so it covers all areas of choice of work.

It is becoming a very favourable area to live and very popular for buying and renting in.

    hope this helps

i lived in Redland in Bristol over 10 years ago but one thing i am pretty sure hasnt changed which none of you are telling the op about is ..........

THE HILLS - Bristol is full of hills, you can't go anywhere without walking up one (great exercise and i lurve the city) but be honest "easy cycle" - get training those hills can be a killer especially after a hard day at work!!!

if i could choose, would probably go for Clifton when i was there as a student, not overrun with them - too expensive and more like Didsbury/Chorlton Green than Fallowfield

Did I not mention hills at all? Must have been somewhere else ...

Yes, there are hills. You'd think, living at the bottom of a hill, it would be easy for me to cycle home, if a bit of a struggle to get to work, BUT I'm over the hill, so it's STILL uphill to get home! So the bike languishes in the garage ... :o

Those hills have one advantage, however. You know if you're going uphill, you're heading out of the city. If you're going downhill, you're heading into the city. Just make sure you're the right side of the city, point yourself uphill, and eventually you'll find your way home. Well, it works for me, anyway! :rotfl:

You'll also want to be avoiding Easton. The police managed to push some of the drugs out of St Pauls and they just moved to Easton.

Every big city has an area, where even the tomcats go around in pairs each with one eye closed!

Many years ago, I used to deal with telephone accounts for various areas of Bristol, including Stoke Bishop (posh) and Easton/St. Pauls. I will give you three guesses which I had more trouble getting money out of!
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

As I live in Stoke Bishop and work in St Pauls, I know where I've had my car vandalised most often - and it's NOT St Pauls! I also know where my lads have been attacked most often, and that's not St Pauls either (although to be fair they don't often have cause to be there ...)

"Anam? Wherz that to?" - Right near Saint George!

Most of the places suggested seem to the other side of town from Temple meads. And very pricey. It might be worth having a look at the St George/Redlfield/Whitehall area. I'm a bit further up from St.G, in Kingswood, but often walk into work (near Temple meads...You don't work in Insurance do you?!!)

    Or perhaps Totterdown?....Southville?

I didn't realise so many feller Bristle people was on yer! - how bis me babbers? (And honestly have you ever heard yourself on HTV!! We sound bleeding awful!, I'm fed up of being asked if i'm a farmer when away from Bristol, no I bleedin' ain't!...It's Somerset that does the whole 'oh-ar' thing, they 'Wurzles' have a lot to answer for!)

My Mum did, but we went to school in Kingswood, so sadly I have to put my accent on a bit if I wants ter soun' like a reel Bristle sort! My Grandad had the worst Bristolian accent ever and was also from Barton Hill!

However there are few people living there now with English accents now, let alone Bristolian ones...

My recommendations are about 20 years out of date I'm afraid but I used to live in Southville - I used to walk or cycle up the Coronation Road and then through town to Broad Street - this was relatively flat and not much further than Victoria Street used to be.

I've also lived in St George and used to walk in from there - goodness knows how many miles but it took about 45 to 50 mins (not much longer than the bus thanks to all the traffic)

Oh yes - I spent 6 months in St Andrews (just up from St Paul's) so used to walk up the infamous City Road into the centre. Never had any hassle and very friendly - tons of dog poo as I remember though!! Weird how many young lasses would hang around at night in short skirts on the roundabout though - you'd have thought it was a bit nippy!!

All in all - Bristol is a lovely place to live :) Good luck with your move

Thanks everyone this thread has cracked I rite up!
Just leave the Wurzels alone hey! I'm a zummerzet gal but have been in Bristol for many years :)
If the OP is working at Victoria Street then Bemmie area has to be the best. You can still walk to all the Watershed stuff dead easy, but you have a bit of distance between town centre and home.
I think the bestist thing about Bristle is being so close for everywhere. Our city is like a little London, but we are much friendlier! We actually acknowledge the bus drivers:)
Let us know where you decide to go?
Oh yeah, remember the river pongs in the summer, especially around Corination Road! Pooo!
