Is Eye surgery Tax Deductible ?

Options
I have a problem with my eyes and it has got to the point now that i can now long work to the best of my ability.
Im self employed and if i have eye surgery it will fix my problem and my eyes will not stop me from doing certain jobs like its doing now.

Can anyone tell me if i am able to write the bill off against my Tax.

Thanks

    Not possible I'm afraid.
  • That is ridiculous. If i needed new tools, i would be able to. My eyes are my tools.

So basically if i didn't get the surgery and stopped working, I would have to claim all kinds of benefits to survive.

    This country drives me mad.

Why would you have to pay for an op?
  • Because they don't do laser eye surgery on the NHS, just as you don't get free glasses or free dentist or lets face it, free anything if your not on benefits.

Its costing me £3000 to keep working and so i can keep paying Tax.

You would think the least they would do is let you claim it back.
  • Sorry , Not claim it back .. I meant write it off against ..

Sorry to hear of your problem. What is commonly called 'laser eye surgery' is usually an alternative to wearing spectacles to correct short-sight, long-sight and/or astigmatism. Perhaps you have some other condition?

    WHAT?
So I didn't get free cataract surgery last year? Twice!
As someone else said, perhaps you haven't got a nose, so glasses would slip off.

Tell you what GTF to a country that will allow that as a business cost.....good luck with that.

I think eveyone could say their eyes are their tools but hey you throw your toys out the pram
  • It is actually the same sort of argument as "I send my kids to a private school, so I should get a rebate because I am saving the state the cost of educating them".
It is a fair enough argument, but the answer still will be NO.
