Halifax dump pet insurance

Options
We received a letter from Halifax pet insurance. they are no longer Insuring our dog. He has an exisiting condition that he will no longer be covered for. They sent us details of another Insurance company that was nearly £150 dearer than direct line insurance. We don't know what to do if our dog needs another operation. We couldn't change from them when they put our Insurance up to nearly £50 a month because of the exisiting condition. Can they do this!

Yes Halifax can decide what business they want to do and they don't have to maintain cover for an existing condition.

The Halifax policy was underwritten by Agria, so I would suggest that you contact them directly. They might be willing to continue the previous cover with existing conditions covered, subject to the relevant premium.

The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • Yes this has happened to me aswell, i contacted halifax and complained but they didn't want to know just said we understand your position and we have tried to help pet owners by arranging for petwise to take on the policies but what good is it when they won't cover pre existing conditions, i don't know whats gonna happen to my dog who has got chronic skin problems as he is only 3yrs old as is gonna need medication for the rest of his life to help keep his skin condition at bay, nobody is prepared to take him on. I contacted the insurance ombudsman but wont hold my breath either.
