In terms of contributing to the costs, you own the car, and control its use, therefore I can't see how you can ask for more than half the petrol.

It's the half petrol he's not paying that bothers me; I don't expect maintenance/insurance. And it amounts to around £600 a year when I all add it up

I guess though it's the being treated like his personal taxi driver which annoys me more than the cost; such as being called to the cricket club a half hour drive away each week because he doesn't want to get the bus etc so I guess that is the issue to deal with

This would super annoy me. I think you need to have a word about being treated like a taxi, or put your foot down and say no. Just out of interest, Why doesn't he drive?
