Hi Guys,

I wonder if you can help because Vodafone just arent getting it.

I joined Vodafone 2 months ago, from the off I asked that my direct debit date was changed from the 15th to the 22nd of the month (when I get paid through work).
I was told this was fine, it came to the 15th and the money was taken, I wasn't told it wouldn't take effect for another month...

Fair enough, I asked them to confirm again for the next billing cyclethat the following month, (month 2) that my direct debit will now come out on the 22nd of the month, I had it confirmed back by email it had been changed to the 22nd. I received my bill yesterday, in which it states payment will be taken on the 21st....

I contacted Vodafone who advised that the agent had correctly changed my direct debit date to the 22nd, but as the 22nd falls on a weekend payment will be taken on the Friday the 21st instead.

I emailed back and told them that I had it confirmed to me in writing it had been changed to the 22nd. Also, as I understood the Direct Debit agreement to be, payment is taken on OR SOON AFTER that date. Why would I agree for money to be taken out of my account on the 22nd, when it's actually going to come out on the 21st?????????

I also understand it to be that if your direct debit falls on a Saturday it will either be taken on the Saturday (depending on the bank) or taken on the NEXT WORKING DAY, i.e Monday, but will be deducted from your available balance for keeps sake.

I have other direct debits and standing orders set up to take money on the 22nd of the month and this has never ever been a problem, money has never been requested early.

For Vodafone to take money on the 21st is not authorised by me.

I know that Vodafone don't have to agree to changing my payment date but the fact I can, and they still haven't honoured my request makes it an unauthorised payment.

As much as it is my responsibility to ensure I have sufficient funds in my account, the reason why I have all my DDs/SOs set up the day I get paid is to get them out of the way.

Last month when they messed my direct debit up I went overdrawn because I wasn't expecting payment to go out on that date.

Vodafone just don't seem to get it, someone please tell me I'm right!!!

I'm not 100% but I think you're right. Whatever is the DD date then it is that date or the next working day. But it really depends on what Voda's T&Cs say (which you will have agreed to). It may say that payments are taken X days after the billing date (e.g. 7 days).
