Our PDF software has stopped working (everything in our house seems to have stopped working including my brain!)
SO....looking for new software. Could buy Adobe obviously but it's expensive.
I think Word 2007 does conversions but we're on 2003.
We need it to:
1. Convert from Word into PDF
2. Must be able to set our own security i.e. need to be able to set it so someone else can print the document but not amend it.
Any thoughts on what would be an inexpensive but reliable purchase?

One option
DoPDF 7 installs as a printer, then you open a document, click file then print and click DoPDF 7 for the printer
http://www.dopdf.com/
There are a number of these but DoPDF should run OK

can you set security on DoPDF? I thought the likes of that and CutePDF just allowed you to print / export to a PDF and that was it0

Yup Bullzip does, been using it for some time now and its been perfect, one of the best bits of freeware around.0 -
So you could send someone a PDF you'd created in Bullzip and make it so that they could open it, read it and print it but NOT amend it? That's crucial to us!0

ahh pdf security, so easy to amend with the right software. Worked 14 years in either pre-press or within design industry. Amount of pdf's i have had to alter that had security set. Granted the software i used was part of a workflow system like apogee prepress, so not cheap and not readily available.
So would i be right in assuming the PDF's you send out are proof copies.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
PDF Creator here
http://downloads.phpnuke.org/en/download-item-view-y-n-g-z-v/PDFCREATOR.htm
Use it to print a document, click options, click PDF in the format options, click security and set the options there, one feature I like is that you can send it without a password being needed to open it, but with a password needed to modify any part of the PDF covered by the security options
Looking around, it's interesting to note the number of companies which sell PDF Protection Programmes, and also sell PDF Copy Protection Removal Programmes0 -
Blimey! 10 posts and none of the fanboys have run in with their knickers on their heads screaming "LibreOffice Does That! LibreOffice Does That!"??
You're slipping, kids.
Anyway - I think DoroPDF http://doro-pdf-writer.en.softonic.com/ will do what you want but, as Neil says upthread, it ain't unbreakable.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -
pdf995 does all the above for free.0
