Further to previous thread on my broken HP 8500, wondering about swapping to something else.
Trouble is, the cheaper all-in-one printers cost a lot in terms of cartridges. Good thing about our HP is that it prints about 1500 pages from one cartridge. I think some of the others only do a couple of hundred.
Anyone got any ideas about what would be a good purchase, balancing out the cost of the printer AND the cost of the cartridges and how many pages they print?

I have a cannon all in one and find it a good all round machine, but I think your 1500 page print per cartridge must be wrong, ?0 -
Would you use compatible inks?0

You mean like Staples own brand? Yes, we would! I have a Canon printer that I just use for printing DVDs on (for business) and I use own brand. Never found them any different!0

Epson usually have the better availability of compatibles and these have 19ml of ink per cartridge, depending on the printer, which is more than some compatibles

Cannon can also be good if especially if you go for separate tanks.
Cheap on Amazon or Premier Ink for compatible cartridges with good quality. Many aren't chipped either."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Its the cost of running the printer (i.e. consumables) thats more imporant that the cost to purchase. Also consider what type of connection you want; networked, wireless, usb only etc0 -
Do you really need to do FAXing? Most all-in-one printer manufacturers have gratefully given up this problematic and now-rarely-used feature...0

Why dont you get another HP ? Check out amazon deals and also buy compatible ink from a place like Ink Club where you get three times as much in a cartridge.0

Yes, we really need fax! Incredible as it sounds in this day and age.
Wouldn't buy another HP - this one has only just lasted over its guarantee period! no thanks!0 -
There doesn't seem an easy way of comparing how much ink the printers all use and what the cost of the ink is! Is there? Am I missing something here?0
