Energy price rises

I have recently been widowed and I phoned npower to see if I was on the lowest tarrif. (Only one income now but a bit over the benefit level). I was told that I was on the best tarrif but there woulkd be the prices rises announced in October. However, the tarrifs in operation are to be scrapped on December the 1st and the customer services operative gave me an estimate of by bill under the new tarrifs. My gas bill will rise by around 36% and electricity by 42%. They have also scrapped all social tarrifs. Has anyone else heard about this lately and do the other companies have similar plans? I have nade an official complaint about the rudeness and lack of comassion from the operative but |I am still awaiting news of the new tarrifs in December/ I shall be writing to my MP and the energy secretary about what I percieve as a 'clandesdibne' price rise that, so far has had no publicity

If you want the 'best tariff' or unbiased advice, don't call your supplier, just use any comp site armed with your anual kWh figures.
The tariffs available by phone are rarely the cheapest, which are the online discount tariffs.
The social tariffs are based on a discount from Standard, which of course is the most expensive to start with.

The price rises may not be pleasant, but perfectly legal. If you don't like the deal you are offered, change supplier; that is why the market was privatised.0
