Am needing 2 tickets from Hitchin/Hertford North to Brighton on 30/12/11 and returning on 01/01/12 for new year.
Is it better/cheaper to book online now, or just pay at the station on the day? Not a big rail user so am new to it all, wasnt sure if booking in advance was cheaper?
If so, what sites are best to use? and how do i actually get the tickets?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
seems to be £41 each for a return.
You don't say if it is 2 adults, or adult and child, or whether you qualify for consessionary fares.
Check out these links, and put in your travel details.
RedSpottedHanky.
NationalRail.
SouthernRail.
If you have a Tesco Clubcard, you can use your vouchers with RedSpottedHanky, change them to Rewards, and for every £5 it becomes £15, so that could save you money.
So, if you used £25 vouchers, becoming £75, you would only have to pay another £7, making £32, so saving £50.0 -
Tickets from Hitchin/Hertford to Brighton are the same price in advance as on the day. All the sites (and the station) will sell you them at the same price - just avoid ones that charge a booking fee, etc. If you buy them online they can be posted to you or you can pick them up at a station from a ticket machine (you'll need the card you paid for them with)
You might do it cheaper though by booking the London - Brighton bit separately on the Southern railway site and buying advance singles on specified trains. Tickets start at £5 single but on the Southern site are discounted to £3.30 single (This is a special offer for booking this month but it's usually extended)
It's too early to book these though - leave it a week or two.0 -
If your quick and able too then you can get cashback on the southern leg of the journey too

How about Green Line coach route 724 from Hertford to Watford Junction?
Sorry, don't know the fares though.
You can get an Advance Single from Watford Junc to Brighton for from £4.95 per person each way.
As mentioned above, these tickets aren't available yet, but when they become available must be booked through Southern Railway's website to get these fares.0
