Scottish Power mess up my transfer

Options
Hi all,

I tried to switch from Eon to Scottish Power via uswitch.

Everything seemed to be going well until this evening when I received an email from Scottish Power starting with:

"We wanted to reassure you that your switch is on track. We've already been in touch with your previous supplier so you shouldn't need to contact them"

Then at the bottom of the same email it said that my Gas transfer has been cancelled and my electricity is still going through.

I phoned scottish power to ask why my Gas had been cancelled as I specifically wanted to have a dual fuel deal. The person at the other end told me that they had cancelled it because the can't support my ELECTRICITY meter!!! So they cant support the electricity meter and cancelled the Gas transfer, while allowing the electricity transfer to go through, how incompetent!!!

Apparently I have what was described as a "related" meter. The Scottish Power C.S. person had no idea what that meant and also couldn't explain why my Gas had been canceled and not my electricity. In fact the only thing she seemed sure of was that they couldn't help me.

So I have had to call Eon and get them to retreive my electricity account and cancel the whole transfer.

Incompetence!!!

Sounds like they've cancelled your electric switching too ;)

What I guess has happened is that as they cannot switch your electricity (because you appear to have 2 meters and many suppliers cannot handle that) then they have cancelled your gas transfer too as you requested a dual fuel supply which they obviously couldn't now entertain.

It might also be that the tariff you wanted won't take gas only transfers anyway.

  • If you bothered to read the post before posting sarcastic comments you would see that there is no mention of having 2 meters, the economy 7 meter replaced the economy 10 meter.

They didnt cancel the electricity, Eon had to retreive it as it had already gone through, it appears that Scottish power cancelled the gas but not the electricity. So it would appear that they cancelled the wrong one. I presume I would have got all kinds of problems down the line when they realised what had happened.

I posted twice on purpose as I wanted to make two unrelated points:

    1) to point out the incompetence of scottish power admin who send emails saying all is going well only to say at the bottom of the email that one of the services has been cancelled. Then to find out the cancelled service is not the problem.

    2) To ask if anyone knows what a "related" meter is and how to change it.

If you bothered top read my response, rather than having a pop at someone trying to give you the advice you sought, then you would see that a related meter is the other electric meter.

There are those who appreciate the help I give, and sadly those who don't. I know who I prefer to spend my time & effort on helping, so I'll wish you well and say good-bye.

    Hi loadsalaughs,

I can look at this for you if you e-mail me your details to onlinecomplaints@scottishpower.com

From what you have said your previous meter set-up had two supply numbers (MPAN's) we can only support customers with this type of meter set up in our own area, which I presume you are not in.

If you have now moved to economy 7 then it sounds like your current supplier have not updated the tariff change correctly and the second supply number which is no longer required is still active, this should be disconnected (logically, not physically).

We will only be applying for one of the two supply numbers and due to this your current supplier will bo objecting to the transfer on the grounds that we are not applying for both of the RELATED supplies. As we are receving objections we do not cancell the transfer of the electricity as this will happen automatically.

What premier suggested about the gas not being availble on its own on the tariff agreed at the point of sale could be correct and may be the reason the gas transferred has been cancelled, alternatively it has been known for letters to occasionally hold the incorrect infromation and I will be able to confirm this for you.

    Kind regards
