Headlight Alignment

Probably quite a simple fix, but I'm stumped!

Recently a headlight bulb blew on my cmax, did the necessary and since replacing my headlights are out of alignment.
The replaced bulb, nearside is sitting about 8" higher than the offside one!

Both were fine before one bulb blew!

Can anyone point me in the right direction how to cure this please, as some oncoming drivers have now taken it upon themselves to put their full beams on me because of my light problem:o

Either its the wrong bulb, or its not seating properly. Probably the second.

Didnt fit it upside down? Or you have self levelling lights that require a trip to the dealers to reset.

    Another silly idea.

Buy a bulb from your Ford dealer. I found on my Mondeo that with ones bought from motorists shops or petrol stations the beam alignment was out to the point where it couldn't be realigned with the adjustment available on the headlight unit. Put in a bulb from my Ford dealer and it was fine. On comparing the bulbs, the one from the main dealer was just slightly longer.
  • Thanks for your suggestions and help, thats given me a few things to try today. :)
  • All sorted I put one of my old bulbs back in, which were still good from a previous change to new bulbs and all is back level again:T

When checking the bulb I had the issue with I noticed it was slightly mis-shaped and shorter than the bulb I've just put in, so that must have been what was causing the problem.

That would explain why I had the same problem with my old Ford Focus. Changed the bulb but it was never level. In the end I disconnected the automatic headlight level thing which lowered the beam, which stopped other cars flashing their headlights at me, but still failed the MOT.

Then at the MOT they said they'd had to replace the bulb again, and it was now level.
