Tech idiot here, so can I have help for dummies please:o:o

My DD is the administrator on her laptop, her fiancee has a user name.
A good while ago she couldn't enter on her profile, it says the password is wrong, but shes 99% certain its right.
It says in a box

Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?

Programme name - The DVD she is trying to run
Verified publisher - the software maker
File origin - CD/DVD drive

To continue type an administrator password and then click yes.

Her user name
Box for password

Show details Yes No

Does she need to take it to a PC fixer?
She thinks it might be a virus or corruption that won't allow her to access it anymore.
Sometimes it gives another error message after she enters the password saying profile corrupt & unable to load, or something like that.

    Sounds like Windows 7 (and possibly Vista).

    Basically her fiance only has a user account and not an admin account so he can't run / install applications which is why it's asking for an admin password.

    If she's getting a profile corrupt error and the fiance only has a user account it could be fun. May be a full rebuild job or she might be able to get away with taking the hard drive out, piggy backing it onto another machine and an administrator on that machine might be able to rename her profile folder. When she logs on again it should create new profile.

    The password is right, the hint says its right.

    Assuming its right - whats the next step?

    Shouldn't need it. Before you do anything print this or write it down as you will have to reboot.

    Select the start button then All Programs then Accesories.

    You should see an option for Command Prompt. Right click and select "run as administrator".

    You will have a black box come up.

    Type the following;
    net use administrator /active:yes

    Then type
    exit

    Reboot and select the new Administrator account.

    >>>>>>

    Select Start and then Settings and Control Panel.

    Select User Accounts. Select your daughters account and then select the option to delete the password.

    Reboot.

    >>>>>>

    Back into a user account and in the command box as above type;
    net use administrator /active:no

    She'll need to set her password up again, of course.
