Hi All,
After much experience with both refurbished brand name items (AIWA, ok not the biggest name but at least heard of) and also well known names second hand (Sony mainly) my latest home cinema system internal amp has packed in on the left hand side, so 5.1 surround sound just isnt the same anymore
Wanted to replace it anyway as i want something that can play CD-R's and Divx/Xvid format discs
Has anyone got any suggestions of where to look? budget depends on what the best deal is really as it'll only be eating into funds i have to furnish my new place and as my DVD/sound (aka home cinema) system is used alot, i wouldnt mind spending up to say £200-250 or so on a decent system (i realise this wont get me top spec stuff, but should get me something good) ok 100-150 would be best but if its worth spending the extra bit i'm all for it
Have spotted a couple in currys for 150 which can support xvid and divx etc and they look good, but wondered if there was better deals to be had on the internet
Cheers in advance for your help,
Alex

Yep get the Canton CD1 speaker set on powerbuy from avforums.com and combine with an amp of your choice..... 1000000000000x better than any of this Sony or JVC stuff...0

Try:

combined with:
http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct_clearancebargains&pid=CAMB-AZUR540R-BLK
Which comes in just under your £250.00 budget. (I assume you've still got speakers / interconnects etc.?)
Just make sure that the store you go to has them in stock before you pay a visit!
I have a Wharfdale DVD 3210 DVX as a second player and for DivX playback, but to be honest the picture quality is poor and Divx playback is patchy dependent on CODEC and it's mood!, so worth paying a bit extra for the Tosh (especially as it has HDMI for upgrade purposes).
I have a few Cambridge Audio seperates that have served me well for over 10 years now, so this should be OK, although AV amps have an in built computer (of sorts!) so can be prone to unreliability anyway.
I use an Arcam AVR 200 amp which produces a nice sound (if a bit tempramental at times), but this is probably a bit more expensive than you are looking for!
Happy Hunting!0
