Immersion timer / programmer

I agree with the above post. If it's a Horstmann digital timer you need to download the manual and read the instructions. It definitely is doable but it may just currently set with the timed boost configured incorrectly.
They also allow the general public access to conversion pdf's [ one controller to a different controller ] TBH a 10 year old could do it its a 40a chocky block on the inside.
NOTE - No No NO ! I'm not suggesting a 10 year old should be allowed to do it - I'm just indicating to those who don't know how easy this isDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Well done chaps! :j
It is indeed a Horstmann Electronic 7 Maxistore. I'm embarrassed to say that I never thought to simply Google it before but now I have. Although it wasn't the same as the link you sent me. I did find a link to the instructions but wasn't allowed to post it as I am a new user and they think I might be spamming! So try this in Google - horstmann electronic 7 maxistore - and about half way down there's a result from Dundee Wharf (it's a PDF link)
As a result of Googling the name I also came accross another Money Savings thread on the very same programmer but, once again (staggeringly), I cannot give you the link (as it might be spam!).
Since starting this process I have also figured out that my digital clock was wrong in that it said AM when it was in fact PM!!! I know this sounds really obvious, but trust me, the unit is in a very tricky place squashed down the side of the tank where you can't actually read the clock too well . I had always assumed when I could (just about) see the correct time, that the AM / PM bit was right also. How wrong could I be!!!:o
So that now explains why the 'Off Peak' light comes on and stays on all afternoon and why I can't manually boost during those hours.
Having now set the clock so it reads correctly and made sure that the bottom tank is the one switched on (I've switched the top on off for now) when I run through the clock I note that the 'Off Peak' light comes on between the hours of 2.15AM and 7.15AM - exactly what the other thread states.
This leads me to another, slightly more worrying question:
Given that the electricy company has us on a 'normal' tariff and we do not have an Economy 7 metre, does this mean that our water is still heating up 'automtically' for those 5 hours (2.15AM - 7.15AM)?
If so, 5 hours seems like an awfully long time and is there any way to adjust this? When my dad saw the size of the tank he thought about 2 hours should do it. I fear that if there is no way of altering this that our bills will be astronomical!!!
I guess that the only reason they haven't been until now is because we had been working off just the top tank on a manual boost and the instructions suggest that this tank is not heated by 'Off Peak' setting.
It certainly does look as though we may need a new progammer quicker than ever...and don't worry Richie...I won'r be employing my young nephew
BTW, the shower is fed from the tank - with an added pump because 'handily' the tank is sited directly behind the shower so there is no gravity! It was like a dripping tap when we moved in.
Thanks again everyone0 -
The installer will / SHOULD have pre-set GMT :
GMT/BST – Switching time will be changed by one hour. In the GMT/BST mode the clock display will match the actual switching time.
GMT ONLY – Switching will always take place at GMT times (summer and winter). Although the clock display will show the correct time
- Sometimes electronic equipment can become scrambled or frozen. To overcome this you should reset the unit.
- This can be achieved by holding down “BOOST, MINUS, PLUS & SELECT” simultaneously.
- The unit will now revert back to pre-set factory default off peak times and the current time will show the time as it was at the time of re-set.
- The hour will be flashing and should be adjusted as detailed in the section setting the time of day’
OFF / TIMED / SWITCHED
- off means off .. .. .. nowt happens ever, the relay will stop leccy going to the elements
- timed means those E10 daytime choice settings [ if you don't set any you wont get any ]
- switched means you hand [ night time only ] over to the telemetry control of your supplier
So if you re-set / make sure the GMT time is correct / leave the timed settings empty / switch the unit to the off setting / the indicator lights will continue to operate [ telemetry ] but nothing will happen and no water will be heated because the OFF setting will stop the throw on the relay.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. In that case read through the instructions again and change tariff 1 from the default of ON 2:15am and OFF 7:15am to the times you require and leave the tarriff 2 and 3 to ON 0:00 and OFF 0:00. I have a detailed PDF on how to do this if you are not sure (PM me if you want a copy)
I also don't have E7 in my house so I set all 3 tariffs to ON 0:00 and OFF 0:00 and just use the 60min boost button as my cylinder only has a single element and I don't need hot water every day.0
