I bought a ticket, put it on dashboard - no sticky bit to put it on windscreen.
When I returned i'd received a parking fine as the ticket had fallen to the floor and the attendant didn't see it.
Wrote to complain and they said that the ticket wasn't displayed properly, that's why they were fining me and "please find enclosed a ticket holder for your future use". This is a plastic wallet thingy which sticks to the windscreen. Surely an admission that one is needed to display the ticket properly. Phoned the council concerned but would not move - pay up or next stage court. Anything I can do - feel inclined to let them take me to court.
Jillksi, try the forums on pepipoo.com - they are very, very helpful and very experienced in all problems relating to parking tickets (and speeding fines). Worth a try on there - if they can't help you then no-one can really.A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining and wants it back the minute it begins to rain.0 -
Same thing happenend a good few years ago to me once, but with the letter from the coincil the parking attendenant had put the ticket had blown to the floor of the car, I took a copy of the ticket and sent the original one off with a letter explaining it had fell off, and all was cleared. I suppose this happens a lot every week all over the country. I also suppose if it went to court, and you had proof you paid for a ticket, then the judge would throw the case out!0

Had to smile at this "the jude would throw the case out" I guess it would have to be Jude Law! Sorry about the awful pun ... but he would make it worth going to court.0

Thanks to everyone for all your replies.
I have written to the council who issued the ticket (my first) and they replied that the problem was not that I didn't have a ticket (they couldn't argue that point as I sent it to them) but that I didn't display it properly!!!!! I did try to argue my case next over the 'phone but this was a waste of time - they would not back down. I had decided to fight it/then changed my mind and thought I'd pay up, but after reading all the responses perhaps I'll try and fight it a bit longer. £60 to park a car for a few hours is a lot of money.0 -
I was in the same situation once - when I shut the car door, the ticket must have blown off the dashboard and as I was in a rush to an interview I didn't check like I normally do when there is no sticky bit.
I just sent the ticket (keeping a copy) with a letter saying that the parking attendant obviously hadn't looked properly!
Fine dismissed!

I just received a ticket for the same reason. My appeal was turned down on the basis that it has to be displayed even though the ticket is a very flimsy piece of paper and it was blowing a gale on the seafront where I parked and I didn't notice the ticket fall down. The warden also took a photograph of my dashboard to prove his case.
Is there anything I can do?
P.s. The photograph has been taken with the penalty notice already in place on the window. Could I get away with arguing that my ticket was displayed in the exact place where their ticket is obscuring? Any suggestions greatly appreciated0 -

Don't send them *the* ticket, they can stick it in the bin then you won't have proof. Send a photocopy if need be.0
