Pavement markings?

I hope someone may be able to help me.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction of pavement markings, specifically exactly where a road changes from free parking for 2 hours to residents only parking.
I parked this morning and checked the signage which allowed me 2 hours' parking. My daughter's orthodontist appointment finished and we returned to the car 30 minutes later to find a ticket. I was baffled but walked around again to find the lines on the road which separate the bays were completely covered by a transit-style van [incidentally with its front wheels in the residents' only bay...!] There was nothing on the pavement. The small sign designating the residents' only bay was further along the road which is one-way, so the only sign I had passed, and indeed walked past was the 2 hours sign.
I have photographed the sign, the view of the van and kerb showing no lines or markings and then from the middle of the road where you can see the front wheels of the van within the residents' bay. I went into the local civic centre to appeal this and show the photos but I have to email them in, hence me using the time before I send them to gather as much information as possible. Thanks for reading.

Get yourself off and registered on pepipoo (takes a very short time and is free):
http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=30
Look at the wealth of info given on any thread there you care to click on. Most people on pepipoo win - the vast majority in fact.
Read the FAQs first, like 'how to post pictures' and show them a picture of the front & back of that PCN as well as the pics of the lines & signs.
Where a bay changes there should be a sign at the point of change of restriction, showing what the situation is in each direction, with arrows. Pepipoo will expand on that more.
Good luck, let us know when you win in the end like almost everyone else does!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thank you very much. I suspected as much, and my poor DD was stunned when, having seen the wretched ticket I started running around taking photos on my phone. Still, it's a lesson in life for her, and at 10, she's old enough to learn it!0

What, you expected as much - that you could appeal and WIN?! That's what I was telling you.
Most people, something like 95%, WIN on pepipoo, and there may be several grounds for appeal. You will never know till you try and IMHO (I have a 10 year old son) your daughter should also learn that people do have a right of appeal when authority thinks they have incurred a penalty.PRIVATE 'PCN'? Just bumping this up to let everyone know that I appealed and it was ignored. Then the NTO came and I wrote a really objective report with clear photographs showing how it was impossible for me to see the road markings because of the position of the van.
I hand-delivered the appeal and today I received a letter to say I WON!!!!! They have cancelled the ticket and subsequent NTO. I am one happy person

Thanks for the help here and my main advice to anyone else is to take good photographs and don't back down.

Well done! :T
Those who persevere, usually win!
I wish more people knew that Council tickets can be successfully appealed and not to give up when the Council call the driver's bluff by routinely turning down informal appeals.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
