When I watch BBC, /ITV etc on the TV, I can get stereo sound no problem (built into the TV, no external speakers or anything fancy).
However, when watching through Sky, I get mono. I've checked the settings on Sky and it's set to stereo. Any ideas?

Scart Leads are the answer/problem. If you view sky through the TV arial, i.e. tune a spare channel on the tv to the RF output of the Sky box, then sound will be in mono. To get stereo on the tv, you need to use a scart lead between sky box and tv.
