Samsung Tv Repair

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice.
I took my TV into the repair center as it had coloured vertical lines running down the screen (it is out of warranty)they plugged it in and saw the problem.
They said the engineer would look at it.I then received a phone call from them saying it is the Motherboard and would cost £150 to repair I gave them the go ahead .
Yesterday I receieved a phone call saying after replacing the motherboard and turned the telly on they can now see that the screen needs replacing £600:eek: (meaning scrapped TV) due to corroded connections.
My option now is to give them £50 for labour as they diagnosed the problem they say they can remove the motherboard and reuse it.
I feel as though I have been scammed and they said they could fix it just to get the £50 labour charge when they probably already knew it was a new screen that was needed.
Would I get anything for it If I sold it for spares??
Any advice ?

I'm no TV engineer, but why the hell would they replace the motherboard when it sounds obvious the fault is on the LCD panel?!
Tell them to stick it, TV won't be worth anything either with a duff panel.
Is it less than 5 years old? If so, you should have gone to where you bought it from and demanded a free repair0 -
Thanks the place we bought it has gone out of business,Samsung are not interested as it is out of Warranty.
It seems there are plenty of problems http://www.prohomedigital.com/lcd-plasma-tvs/50-problems-plasma-lcd-tvs.html

Thats what I'm thinking but if I leave the TV with them for all I know it may be perfectly repairable for a £150
That may be the cost but not the price to you.
Either way it is dead.
Don't know what size it is or age but £200 to wards a new one seems a better gamble IMO price have fallen markedly unless you want top end spec."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

The telly is still retailing at £800 but I won't be spending that much again we do have a spare telly but the issue now is do I pay the £50 or let them have it.
Are there any TV repair engineers on this board should they have know straight away if the screen needed replacing0 -
Reminds me of the story on Watchdog tonight0
