Hi lee
Yes, you can use Partition Magic to create that 3rd partition instead of Gnome Partition Manager. I think that's best idea for you.
If you were struggling for space, you could get away with as little as 3GB.
But as you're not - I suggest you allow it 10GB or so for starters.
You can always change this later, if necessary, using Partition Magic again.
A second drive is a good option, as wolfman says.
But for now KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid). Use a partition.

You need a swap partition in Linux (and Unix). It's the equivalent of windows page file.
Details here, scroll down to "swapping in the Linux and BSD Operating Systems" bit
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_memory#Swapping_in_the_Linux_and_BSD_operating_systemsIt's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
 for your help guys
Will try this, this afternoon and if you dont hear a reply by 15:00 hrs assume I've broken it :rotfl:0 -

I would highly recommend a /home partition also, really helps with upgrades and backups.
I think about 10GB for / would be enough, 512MB for swap and the rest for /home0 -
:rotfl:Dont panic guys
Have been busy and not had time to break it yet,
have also just down loaded the live cd of pclinuxos with kde
Cant seem to get that working on my laptop but have managed to get it working on my home pc, but understand that there is a known problem with the grub menu,
any way have repartitioned the hdd and have backed all my data up
so will try the full install in the morning.
thanks for the concern anyway0
