Someone reversed into my car

I was driving along a road and a car reversed off his drive. That was fine he then pulled forward and I started pulling behind him but he put his car back into reverse. I did not have time to start reversing myself, however I was stationary. He reversed into my car claiming he did not see my car as he was looking in his wing mirror next to the curb. There was damage to both cars. However also a witness, who I took name and number of, says he saw the man reverse into my car. The man is saying I drove into him but also said I wasn't moving. Where do I stand I'm only 19 and have 2 years no claims which makes a big difference to my insurance costs. We both took each others details and photos. It's my first crash so I wasn't sure what to do.

Did his car squash the wing of yours? If so he hit you [it isn't as simple as that but it isn't a bad way to see it]. Plus you have a witness so get the details to your insurance company and prepare for a scrap!

Does sound like you failed to anticipate the guy was in the middle of an manuovre though so that's a bit of a lesson learned.

Try to get some sort of statement from the witness just in case the idiot starts threatening them, I know it's unlikely, but i've heard of it happening so many times!

He completely failed to check that there was nothing behind him before reversing though I could have been a child crossing the road. I wasn't expecting him to pull onto his side of the road and then reverse back no. His car hit my passenger side headlight not the side of my car.

If the front of your car went into his the damage is easy to represent differently. Follow Strider's advice, get that witness statement in.

Remember, the problem is usually other motorists. The road is full of idiots. Now you've had this happen you know that sometimes people do stupid things. It is being ready for them that will save you more grief.

It isn't a good way for things to be but second guessing people is about the only way to be a safe driver these days.

Well since my car wasn't moving the back of his car went into the front of mine but I know what you mean that's kind of why I wanted to post on here. But how do you go around anticipating people to start reversing? But yes I will get the statement and hopefully it will all work out I don't even mind about claiming against him I just don't want a claim against me.
