How to obtain a customers bank details??

Hi,
We've had a customer who have decided they're not going to pay us for a job to the tune of £7k.
we've taken them to court and had judgement in our favour, to which they didnt pay. So we sent bailiffs round to which they still havent paid. I'm now trying to obtain their bank details so i can obtain a Third Party Debt order.
They have paid us in the past, March 2010. I have the statment showing the payment, but only has the company name not the actual account details.
When i asked our bank (Bank of Scotland) for the Account and sort code they told me they only hold records back upto a year.. which doesnt sounds right to me??
Does anyone know legally if this is true? or how long they have to keep details of payments received?
Or, am i barking up the wrong tree?
thanks in advance,
Ben

due to the data protection act the bank cannot give you the bank details of one of their customers
regardless of why you want themReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -

Your actual question is only in your fourth paragraph, so there is a risk that anyone who knows the answer might not read that far, or might misunderstand (like the poster above). Is there also a risk that your customer might have changed banks since March 2010?
Have you looked up details of your customer at Companies' House?
Maybe you could pose as a customer of theirs, and enquire about how to make a payment to them? Otherwise, a private detective might offer the most rapid and cost-effective solution.0 -
My question really is, how long are banks required to keep account details of people who have paid you in the past.
Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to try and pre-answer any questions that may arise.
i have looked them up on Companies house and they are still trading. i have tried to obtain the details from the people they are trading with but have been informed they only pay via credit card.
And tried to contact as a new customer to get new work but never had a call answered or message returned.
There is a risk they may have changed their bank but thats a risk i'm willing to take.0 -
Most incoming payments have a reference or identifier rather than account number.
But when I receive an incoming payment (Co-op bank / smile) from an individual it sometimes gives the sort code and account number in the reference field. Presumably this is set by the sending bank if the sender hasn't asked for a specific reference to be sent with the payment? We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

As far as I'm aware... I could be wrong but if you have been to court and won, the judge can order them to surrender information, such as bank details so that you can obtain payment.
Don't take this "as gospel"....
Alternately, find out who also does business with them / supplies them with goods and services and get their bank details that way...you could let slip that its because they are a bad payer and you've had to resort to court actionDFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499
28th October 2019 - £13,505 - 27% paid off.

Get a third party order against one of their debtors (customers). That way their customer pays you your amount and anything left over goes to the people wh owe you money.I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.0
