Possible CPU Fault

Hi guys,

It's weird for me to aska tecky question, as I am usually the one answering lol, but anyways need to scratch someones head...

I've rescued a PC from my garage, got it all working, but was a bit temprimental, in that required a few goes at switching it on before it finally went for it, i.e. I had to switch the main switch off at the back a few times, with the main fan just twitching then eventually it started.

well this eve had a power cut and it went off, i know it's not surged as everything is surge protected, but seems even when I switch the switch at the back, the main fan doesnt even twitch now.

I volt metered the main switch at the front and it def has 12v's going through it, but the thing wont switch on..

Thinking it could be a w#nk PSU, but thought i'd try see if anyone else has any advice.

Cheers

1st and fore most change the psu.

You know it yourself, and until we isolate that possibilty, we can not be sure of the problem.

You knew the answer, there is no easy way out ;)

  • Ive got what may be a similar problem.....I came home yest to girlfriend saying she'd switched pc on and it had just gone off by itself and wouldnt come back on.

I did few quick checks last night, swapping power cords, checking plug sockets, opening the case to check for any suspicious burning smells but nothing obvious-it just wasnt powering up at all.

So I went and got new PSU today (luckily live near a microdirect outlet so only cost me £9 for new 350W one (orig only 250W). Have installed it but still nothing, other than when first tried it after installing it, the HDD activity light on the front of the case flashed for a second but not again.

Thats the limit of my ability really, changin the PSU so bit stuck as to what to try next. Any ideas anyone to save me having to go and buy a whole new PC??
