Car insurance and IVA ????

I have just completed my first year of an IVA :j and have just had my insurance renewal.

It is basically nearly double the premium it was last year. I am currently paying £33 a month, but come 28th the renewal date, it shoots up to £58 a month.

Is everyone in the same boat or does it have something to do with being in an IVA?

It just seems strange that I am finding it hard to find insurance below £400 for a 39 year old male with clean liciense driving a 1.6 car worth £1750

I doubt it has anything to do with your IVA!

Insurance has changed in the way its grouped! Instead of being grouped 1-20 its now grouped 1-50 so the increase is because of that!

My car went from Group 8 to Group 17 and like yours doubled! I rang them as Ive been with them 5 years, I stressed to them that my insurance has never been that high in the years ive been driving, and how i wont be staying with them if they dont reduce the quote...low and behold they bring it down, not to what i paid previously but they knocked a fair bit off and made it my cheapest quote again!

  • Hi, my car insurance went up from £30 to £43 a month with Swift, have now gone with the AA which is £18 a month. I am 39 with a clean licence. I haven,t got an IVA either. Rekon its the insurance companies trying to rip us off!!
  • Please, please, please don't just accept the renewal qoute fm your insurance company. They prey on individuals who they think won't shop around. They do not pay you back for loyalty, regardless of the increase that insurance has seen recently.

Use the price comparison sites, GoCompare, Confused, Compare the meercat etc. Yes it is a bit of a pain entering your details on three separate sites, but once in, you don't need to re-enter each year, (unless your details change obviously)

You will be surprised how much you can save, and even then you can haggle a little if you contact them.

The market is wide open and companies are fighting for your custom, so please use this to your advantage.

    I hope this helps.;)

Im with tesco and they tried to put ours up i went on a comparison website. there was a quote £300 cheaper a year. So i rang tesco told them my plan to go elsewhere and they matched the quote.
  • Thanks for the replies, but I have now come across another problem.

It is time to renew my insurance ( 28th ). I am finding quotes and have found a couple of low quotes, but when I go to complete the transaction, I get told that due to consulting a credit reference agency, I can only pay by the full amount and not direct debit. Is this going to be the case with all insurers? I can not afford a one off fee
  • That didn't happen to me. I would keep on looking, there are loads of insurers out there so one is bound to suit your needs. Good luck!

You need to find an insurer that doesn't farm out it's monthly payment plans to a finance company and just splits the payments itself. I am with Direct Line and recently renewed with no problems.
  • Renweal wasnt a problem. Just getting a new policy they credit search. Even direct line advise of this when you phone.
  • try using Co-OP. I failed their credit check, explained about the IVA and they said no problem! have been with them paying monthly for 2 years now. I am paying around £28 per year extra to pay monthly...but worth it to me as couldn't afford lump sum.
  • My insurance too went from £525 to £900 a month at the last renewal - but so have all of my friends.
Just completed my one-time IVA :D
