Would the discount be higher for council flats/houses?

I was reading the Metro today, and it stated the discounts for houses/flats would be higher 30-50%, for RTB next year?

Is this true?

Thanks

    Right To Buy
  • I work in Right to Buy and I'm afraid you know as much as we do. The first I heard of it was in the Metro as well. Percentage discounts have always been in place (up to 60% for a house and 70% for a flat), but it's the limit on what those percentages can be in cash terms that's prevented many from applying. Where I work it used to be £50,000, it went down to £38,000 and now it's "only" £16,000 (still £16,000 better than everyone else gets who's buying on the open market!). £16,000 off when a flat might be valued at £175,000 or more isn't encouraging tenants to buy but if the cap is increased to £50,000 again, for example, it will likely have a big effect.
