Sore bum when jogging!

Sorry but I have a strange problem!

I've recently started doing some jogging to build up fitness levels and lose some weight. It's going well and I'm enjoying it but I have one problem!

My buttocks are quite flabby, I have a large bum, and when I jog/run they jiggle up and down and it gets a bit sore after a while! Is there such a thing as a support bra for your bum?!!!

Lol :rotfl:

Actually if you get one of those Nike fitness pants they do give you support, not as much as a sports bra though.... A gap in the market? :D

My first thought when I swa the title of this thread was you're doing it wrong;).

There is some underwear that promises to give you a pert bum, I think M&S do them for both sexes, perhaps they would help?
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!
  • Have you considered rubbing something on them to avoid chafing? :D

There are several things you could try:

Rubbing something like Lancane chaffing cream could help if its to do with the friction on your clothes.

You could get "dri-fit" or sweat wicking fabrics (all the major brands offer them, IMO Nike and Adidas are the best at it) this will also reduce friction caused by movement. If your pants are tight enough it will work even better. If you feel self concious wear a baggier pair over the top or if your £loaded buy compression pants underneath (2XU seem to get the best ratings on runners forums but Skins also make them, available online at sweatshop or runners stores like Runners Need). Designed to prevent DOMS and aid with recovery after intensive exercise but may help with what you seem to be experiencing.

I'd also add that I think this will go away over time. I used to do a lot of spinning classes several times a week, the saddles would be so uncomfortable and my bottom would hurt SO MUCH that I ended up forking out for a gel saddle. Then one day I forgot my saddle cover and tried without and I was totally fine- no pain issues at all! I think it was just because I had done so much by then my body (and bottom!) had gotten used to it.

Also if your worried about toning the muscles, try things like walking a few minutes of lunges and doing a few squats (please learn how to do these properly or you could cause yourself problems!) do these before each run to 'remind' your body about the muscles and to warm up, when your done running don't forget to stretch properly before finishing.

It doesn't sound like a chafing problem so much as a bouncing problem. I know what you mean (apart from the running !) if I was to jump up and down, my bum would feel like it needs a bra on. It's like my cheeks are going to hit the floor if I don't stop :o.

I'd look at getting some compression shorts to wear underneath your normal gear - and check your shoes and technique, too - both should enable you to minimise bouncing. Apart from that, just be sure that the running *will* fix this problem for you...just keep at it.

    Butt plugs??? really??!!! :rotfl:

Anyway Kaz has my problem to a Tee. Its the jiggling about that is causing me the problems not so much the chaffing!! I'm confident that I'll be able to keep this up and my bum will get toned with time its just for the here and now!!

Perhaps I'll try wearing some tighter underwear and see if that produces any more support!!!

*sighs* Its a good job I have a sense of humour really....of all the things to request advice about!!!
