Taking over the Gas/Electric. First Time!
Long story short, we've been living with a friend for a couple of years, she's decided to move in with her OH, and wants us to take over the utilities. Having never paid them in our own right, I have no idea what i'm doing!! I need MSE's help!!
She says that she was paying around £90 a month last winter for the gas/electric with E-ON. There was only me and OH in the house, as she was stayin over at her partners most of the time. They obviously came down in the summer.
What i need to know is, WHERE DO I START?!?!

You start by registering for an account with the existing suppliers, only then can you switch, if you wish. Then get your annual kWh figures from the supplier (or from old bills). Armed with these, use any comp site to find the best tariff for you.
The switch process will then take 4-5 weeks. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi donnap83,
What you need to do is call E.ON and advise them you are taking over the Property, they will set up an account in your name you will need to give E.ON a set of readings to open your account from.
You will get your bills quarterly and you can set up a payment arrangement if you want and you can also ask what tariff’s will be best for you.
Once you have set up account with E.ON then you can start the process of changing supplier if you want to.
Shout up if you have any more questions you would like to ask

Cannot i not pay monthly?:oGetting married 23rd June 2012!!:o0 -
You are billed quarterly, but the DD's are taken monthly.
The vast majority of the most competitive tariffs require fixed monthly DD payment. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi donnap83,
On certain tariffs you can get your bills quarterly or monthly and you can also pay monthly payments either through a monthly Direct Debit or monthly on demand payments.
We have different payment arrangements we can offer to you, depends which one suits you the best.
