Economy 10 meters- possible confusion?

I have two identical apartments in Hertfordshire. One I live in and one that I rent out. Both places are on Economy 10 with storage heaters and well insulated dual element hot water cylinders. As I have no tenants at present I am (hopefully not for long!) responsible for the electricity bills for both places. My current supplier is EON and I read the meters and update regularly on their web site in an attempt to avoid inaccurate estimated bills. Each meter has THREE readings which are accessed by repeatedly pushing a button and each reading is prefixed by a number 1,2,3.
My accounts show the three readings but differentiated by a suffix.
i.e. 123456, 123456N and 123456L. What has got me concerned is the fact that in one property 1=N 2=L and 3=0 but in the other 1=L, 2=N and 3=0 which suggests to me that the wiring and/or the meter readings may be muddled? I have heard about this muddle happening with other consumers but EON deny anything and say that such a difference is common! The wiring was done when the places were built in 2001. How can I get this checked to ensure that I am not being over charged? (Preferably at EONs expense!)

Watch the meters over a period of time.
By controlling what you use and when, you should be able to identify which registers are recording what
Like Eon say, I doubt there's a real issue here"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Hi oldcyclist,
Quite often the order of the meter readings shown on the meter can be different to the order of the readings that are shown on your account.
As Premier says the easiest thing to do is to check the meter readings.
It's unlikely that anything will be wrong, but you can send me your details to the email address in my profile page and I can take a look at your accounts for you.

2/N - Normal Kwh.
1/L - Low Kwh.
Register 2/N + 1/L = 3/0.
Compare between the two properties, hardly doubt their will be issues with the wiring, unless their is an issue with the timeswitch.
THis is wrong. That is the siutuation for an Economy 7 meter (in some parts of the country) but not an E10 meter.0
