Hi,
Hopefully an easy fix ? my Windows Media Player (v9) displays my home movies (.wmv files) like a 'thermal image'. It will play/display other .wmv files perfectly normally. I have a VLC player on the laptop which plays/displays my home movies normally. So this suggests to me the files are OK.
Any suggestions what the problem is ?
My friend can play my home movies through his Windows Media Player perfectly normally. We have gone through the Windows Media Players setting by setting and can find no differences.
After several frustrating hours we are at a loss what the cause could be.
Help please.

sounds like some sort od codec problem, you could do a search for this
k-lite mega codec pack, this will give you codecs to play nearly every type of media file you can think of and some you never even heard of.....but wait first to see if anyone else offers suggestions.....still a great pack to download though....do a google for it while you wait for other answers
all the bestI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

Yeah, gotta be a codec problem me thinks too. Try upgrading your media player to version 11 and see if that fixes it

Also try lowering the performance of WMP as that will show video in thermal as it cant handle good quality video at high performance rates so try lowering the rate by using the slider bar when you go to, Tool, Options, Performance I set mine to about half way.0
