Glass's Guide (Used Cars)

Anyone have access to one?

Trying to get a value for the following:

Audi A4 TDi (130PS) on a 51 (2001) plate. Usual extras. Dealer history. Only 63K miles. Very good condition.

Expecting an offer from my insurance as a write-off/total loss and I'd like some ammo to hit them with when they make the expected derisory offer.

Must be some 'dodgy car dealers' on here somewhere.;)

You can buy a more accurate valution from Glasses on line for about £3.50. If you do a page print and save the screen dump to file then you can use that to argue the valuation.

That's what I did when my car was written off, but it doesn't always work, they sent back details of equivalent cars for sale locally cheaper than their valuation. :)

Also Vauxhall were doing a pukka Glasses valuation for free from their website, don't know if they still are.

Too tight to pay for the valuation.:o

You are correct about Vauxhall - though they stopped the link to Glass's Guide some time ago. They now link to CAP connect. I'm not sure if CAP use Glass's data or not, though.

As I live in a very rural area I doubt they'll hit me with local valuations but Autotrader is an option I suppose.

CAP = Car Auction Prices - its the price the car 'should' make if it has to go through an auction. They are a seperate org to Glasses - they value their cars based on what dealers have paid as trade prices during the previous month.

Find as many similar cars as you can via autotrader, gumtree, etc. Print them off. Argue that it will cost you this to replace the car.

It appears you wont get what the books say its worth.

Plenty of not sold ones on ebay advertised for £2000 - £3000.

Thanks Paul - much appreciated. To be honest it looks like the CAP figure is going to be higher that any Glass's Guide figure. I'd like more (obviously) but may need to steer them away from Glass's and onto CAP - unless I can find better comparators elsewhere.

I'll check Autotrader again nearer the time plus Gumtree etc.

Problem with Autotrader and Gumtree you only see the advertised price and not the actual price the car sold for.

Auction prices and ebay prices tell you whats actually sold and for how much.

Seems not much money going around for buying cars so values are low and big discounts are to be had.
