Best water softener on the Market?

Hi,
I'm looking at water softener systems and wondering what is considered the best on the market available.
I keep going back to what is called the Twintec S3 which is a no electrics one that fits neatly under the sink.
Any suggestions, comments, horror stories or warnings to look out for when investing in any water softener systems. I've noticed on this forum site that some older boilers won't be compatible in terms of pipe work and aluminium tanks etc so ideally don't want the added cost of having to get a new boiler etc obviously. Hence the reason I need some advice.
Thank you in advance.

If you want to spend twice as much as you need to and pay three times as much for your salt for years to come - buy a Twintec !
(I paid £5.64 on Saturday for 25kG of granular salt [22.5p/kilo]- the Twintec uses block salt - ask how much that costs - no, don't bother, I'll tell you £47.50 for 80 kG [59.4p/kilo) on ebay, even more elsewhere !!!)
It MAY be the case that a twin cylinder machine MAY use a little less salt than a single cylinder but to a great extent that depends on how you set the machines up.
The Twintec website says
"Because the S3 works on a duplex parallel system it uses a lot less salt. The softening tanks only clean themselves exactly when they need to so only a very small amount of salt is used. This can save you up to 40% on running costs."
To even suggest that by using salt at 59p/kilo can be 40% cheaper than using salt at 22.5/kilo is so stupid that I won't even bother with the maths............
Buy a single cylinder machine and (if you haven't got power nearby) get an electrician in to install a power point.
Don't believe all the rubbish you will be told about how much better twin cylinder machines are than single cylinder machine. They both do exactly the same thing to your water, they use the same resin and they use the same amount of salt to regenerate the same quantity of resin - except one costs a heck of a lot more !
But - it's your money.........................0
