if anyone one is on the BG homecare plans and are not happy with you renwal just cancel and start again you will then get it a new customer rate. when you calll to cancel you will be put through to the retention team just refuse what everthey offer you ( unless its better then a new customer deal) may seem obvious but 1000's dont do it

  • Good point - don't forget Quidco too!

BTW how do you time this to make sure the policies run after each other? Does a policy start immediatly when you apply and give payment details or is there a delay e.g. for them to inspect the boiler?

    Thanks

Think carefully before you break your homecare agreement. You will get the new customer price, but could have problems if your boiler develops a fault. Also you won't get an annual service.

In the first year you get an inspection (not a service) within 28 days of taking out the cover. If they can see a part has failed or is likely to fail, they will refuse to cover it until it is repaired.

In future years, they do a full service, and if they identify a part is likely to fail they replace it then (saves them money on call outs).

However, if you cancel before your service then sign again, you wouldn't be covered for anything identified as likely to go wrong at the inspection, as you would be a 'new customer', so it could end up costing you in repairs. Also, if you don't call them out that often (apart from the annual service), with time you gain a loyalty discount off the annual cost, which you wouldn't accumulate if you re-signed every year - although it is unlikely this would be as much as the new customer discount.

If you want to take the risk to shave a few pounds off, you'd be better off just cancelling it altogether and getting a corgi engineer to service it once a year.
