'ide line' oil filled radiator...

I have been using an 'ide line' oil filled radiator. Bit like those old fashioned school radiators (with the fins) So far no problem. However, the other night, smoke came out from the vent. I immediately switched it off, thank goodness I was in the kitchen at this time! Now, I am wondering if the pups bedding had somehow blocked/covered the lower vent causing smoke to come from the upper vent? I am unsure as to what the cause was. I asked at domestic repairs if it was repairable, I was told no as it was a probably a sealed unit? Would this be correct? If so I will need to replace, similar are £24 on offer at local independent supermarket. However it may be cost effective to repair? Any views please! Thank you.
