If any Americans arrive by land we're in real trouble....

Better keep a close eye on the A1 between Dundalk and Newry, then!

Well maybe - but I think its actually charged as a part of the airport fees, so it just seems free.

But the situation is still an asymmetric

UK taxes and airport fees are charged to everyone irrespective of where you come from. The US ESTA amd land-entry fees are not charged to Americans (or Canadians).

So everyone is screwed equally then, not just the foreigners? :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

It does take a while to get to USA from Canada they searched our car and nicked our fruit we were going to eat that day instead of eating at fast food restaurants. Getting back into Canada was easy peasy though the immigration officer only asked me questions of what was happening in Corrie LOL! don't you just love Canadians eh?

Fruit is on the list of food items that you cannot import into the USA, however you're entering.

They didn't search our car. (Just seemed to be doing random spot-checks.) Took about 20 minutes due to the amount of cars crossing at the same time, but much quicker and easier than I had anticipated.

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end
