Selling furniture on EBay - Pick up from House tips

Hi,
We have some furniture that we are thinking of selling on EBay or Gumtree. Whenever we have sold items before they have required posting, but as it is furniture we are thinking of selling, it will require someone to pick it up from our house.
Do you have tips in relation to this? I'm worried and tend to think the worst: people will be scouting out the house to break in etc (I was burgled about 18 months ago).
Thanks in advance.

Well there is the paypal on collection scam but unless you are talking high end furniture it is probably a risk worth takingI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Have the furniture in garage when they collect just hide any value items which are normally in there0 -
I have sold a lot of collection items & never had a problem, mind you maybe they come take a look & see that I don't even have a tv & consider it's not worth the hassle, unless they're going to drop me some stuff off.
There's plenty of easy ways for people to check out your property to break in.0 -
Just recently I am getting a lot of collections- I am positively trying to encourage them on items I cannot be bothered to wrap!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. We are in same boat, we are doing few tip runs the weekend, to empty the garage to move the furniture in there. And all DH tools will be moved into his shed.

I arranged a courier to pick a (huge) dressing table that was collection only - it was a bit of a faff but worked well in the end, we used a courier service that I found via Shiply. It was quite expensive though so it would depend on what (and the value of) that you were selling.0

There are probably not many sellers who would risk allowing buyer to send their own courier- you were lucky.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
