I agree as I did the same - the whole family suffered and for what. Doesn't anyone have any decency or shame about being declared bankrupt anymore.

I'm not proud of being bankrupt, but ashamed not even remotely.

However, I would be absolutely utterly and completey ashamed of making my family suffer because of my financial problems, and couldn't think of a more selfish or indecent approach.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I have absolutely no right to judge you, and similarly you have no right to judge me or anybody else.

Going bankrupt does NOT mean that you are an indecent person and is nothing to be ashamed of.

And I sold my house to pay off every penny of mine but I still understand and have empathy for those who arent as lucky as us, the ones who do have an option to find a better way out than bankruptcy.

Pig Ignorant. The decency and shame.. You have no idea of what the concept of going through bankruptcy and its problems is like and I hope you never have to find out.

There are people who come here who are on the edge. The only way out other than going over that edge sometimes is bankruptcy. Trust me I KNOW. This site is supposed to be about honest, unbiast and helpful information. Not a derogitory sl4gging off board for all and sundry who dare to think of bankruptcy as a way out.

You should think before you post comments like that, and just think what they could do to a vunerable, worried and suicidal person who's only way out might just be bankruptcy.

I paid back every penny of what I owed and I am certainly proud of that. But it was my choice and based on what I believed was best for me.

A friend of mine who ran a restaurant that folded went bankrupt and he owed thousands. He had a job that didn't pay a whole lot, and after paying what he could for a while, he went bankrupt. There was a lot of stress and heart-searching, but it was the best decision for him and he said in hindsight it was the best thing that he could have done.

There is no shame in bankruptcy, and a lot of people take ages to make the decision to go down that route, and they deserve as much support from this forum as those who decide to pay.

Another sobering thought, over 400 people commit suicide in this country in January of each year as a result of debt related problems. How many is that going to be this January with the situation having escalated in 2006, and what about subsequent years?

Oh yes, I feel really sorry for financial institutions.

Hang on a minuite guys.. I have been watching this thread and it seems to have developed into a blaming, sl4gging and bullying match.

The OP was happy that they have been discharged, no one knows naff all about the Op's circumstances to leave that at that. As for jumping on the lats sl4g off al people who are bankrupt - you people who are doing this, do you know why we do it - Its not to escape the debt.. christ if I wanted to do that I'd have done it years ago.. No we perciviered, tried to pay every penny but couldnt.

If you dont know the FULL circuumstances keep your biggoted mouths closed unless you can post responsibly and constructivly.
Its nice to see that not being judgmental works both ways...

  • As a newly bankrupt individual, I have to say that the arguments put forward here can be used both ways.

I declared bankruptcy so that my daughter can grow up with her mummy as her mummy, which is how it should be. I chose that my daughter would not pay the price for my debt.

Decency and shame aren't connected in any way. I had the decency to admit that I was out of my financial depth, and did have my share of shame. I had both.

Please don't criticise (some) bankrupts for saying "Poor old me, the bank leant me too much money", when in the same breath, you are effectively saying "Poor old me, I paid every penny back." You make your choice and pay the consequence.

I have had my eyes opened lately, and only since confronting our situation, have I realised the power of the "Small print" on TV ads. You have a women in a beautiful home with a beautiful family, saying "£25,000?", when the white writing at the top of the screen says "£47,800".

For those of you who didn't go bankrupt, I applaud you. In a few years time, you will be able to get that mortgage that the bank is offering for a great rate. I will have to declare that I was bankrupt in 2007, and will either get turned down, or pay an inflated rate.

I've accepted that as the price I pay for my choice. I wish I'd done it sooner. My daughter WILL NOT SUFFER for my mistakes.

Oh its Ok Rich.. They where shameless and undecent people.... The banks and peoples opinions on bankruptcy are far more important than peoples lives.

    It makes me sad really.
