No claims question

We currently have two cars one which is quite high on insurance and obviously about to get much higher when it comes up for renewal in January, and a small car which is less obviously but has gone up from approx £27 per month to £50+ per month.
We have 8 years no claims on the bigger car but only 1 on the small one.
We are going to get rid of the big car when the mot and insurance run out (new year).
Now i have done a quote for the small car with the 8 yrs no claims from the big car (are you keeping up ha ha) and it is coming out a lot cheaper at only £30 per month.
Ideally we would like to keep the big car until after xmas for school runs etc and possible bad weather coming up and also having to pay to cancel the insurance policy early but the insurance is due on the 1st November on the small car and feel it is a waste of the 8 yrs NCB we have on the big one.
Is there anyway they will accept the NCB two months down the line on the small car policy and reduce the payments? (even as i type it seems unlikely) or if anyone knows of any other way of doing it?
If needs must we will just get rid of the big car now but feel a bit gutted if we have to.

No, they wouldn't accept NCB 2 months down the line, as otherwise your NCB will effectively be attached to 2 cars for the 2 months.
Your choices are:
1) Pay cancellation fee and reinsure with 8 months NCB after Christmas
2) Buy a couple of 'short term' policies to take you through from 1st November - 1st January (likely to be comparatively expensive).
3) Leave policy to run and wait until 1st november 2012 to reinsure based upon 8 years NCB.
You'll need to do your sums as to which works out best for you.0
