Car insurance for young drivers. Help!!!

This is a bit of a nightmare. I'm looking for insurance for my son who takes his test this week.
Presuming he passes, he'll be looking for a car (Corsa/Fiesta or similar). He's working but on a low wage and the quotes we are getting are £3.5k + (we even had a £11k quote!!).
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the premiums down on his insurance or should he just get taxi's everywhere (£3.5k gets a lot of taxis!!)
Thaks for any help on this.

try Bells and put parents down as named drivers, also some policies have the option to restrict driving hours, as in not late at night which reduces them further. Though my daughter's first year on a corsa was nearly £2000Save 12k in 2020 #19 £12,429.06/£14,0000

I would agree in trying a different car - I was insured at 21 on a '93 Micra for about £550, though that was several years ago now. I know boys can be a bit fussy about cars and want to get a "cool" one but it could be a good life lesson about making compromises!0

I asked the same question again to see if i got any different answers than last time (and i did). ThanksThe Laughingbear0

Why don't you go online and search, you will get best of options there for your son.0

Mathew111, I've been on several comparison sites and i'm basically looking for tips/hints (some of which i've had) that will help to bring down the cost of the premiums i've already been quoted. The Laughingbear0 -

The biggest difference in price for me was increasing the voluntary excess to the maximum (£1000, god help if I ever crash). Also, adding my Mum and Dad as additional drivers also reduced the cost greatly.
I bought a 206 and my first year I made my Mum the policy holder and me as an additional driver. It was £800.
Then went to Elephant Insurance, with me as main driver, £700.
Then the year after, £500! (this was the year i increased the excess)
Then my 4th/current year for car insurance, still with Elephant was £390. This was with 2 years no claims, so I am really looking forward to when I have hopefully, 5 years no claims!
I would recommend Elephant for price (haven't had to claim). They also negotiate on the phone, nice Welsh people. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

In this scenario, assuming you were in fact the main driver, this is fronting. We all know about fronting, so I won't bore you with itbut as a warning to the OP I highlight it.
