Help with home insurance

Hi
I am hoping someone can advise as I am really not sure what to do.
My buildings and contents insurance is due for renewal on 17th October. We move out around about the 21st November (possibly before) and we will be leaving the house vacant as it is up for sale.
The house we are moving to is rented so we only need contents.
Im wondering whether I need to get a policy for our situation now, then get a new one when unoccupied and pay the cancellation for both. Would they let me transfer the contents cover to a new home?
I dont know where to start!!!
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

It will depend on the insurer, some would allow you to transfer the contents across but some won't be able to separate the contents and buildings from each other.
Before buying, make sure you clarify with them any fees that will apply for early termination. It may be cheaper to terminate the whole policy and buy a contents only at the new place.0
