not recommending a certain brand, but one tip i would say is look for one that has the water collector at the top of the machine, similar to where you would find the powder drawer on a washing machine
some have the water tray, behind a removeable cover at the bottom of the machine, and its just soo much faff trying to bend down and get to it0 -
All the Which? Best Buys were quite expensive (in fact - very expensive).
However although not a best buy they did recommend the Zanussi / Electrolux TC7102W @ around £240. Available in Argos, Currys or Powerhouse. It was slower than the expensive ones & lacked a dryness sensor. Otherwise OK.Nice to save.0 -
Hi,
I would certainly not recommend a Candy model ! A couple of weeks ago, our 3yr old Candy condenser dryer broke down, with the heater giving up.
My sister has the same model Candy dryer and rang yesterday to say the heater has packed up on hers too.
We've just bought a new Creda (TCS3) from LXDirect for £202 (was £250) after using some of the discount codes posted in the forum. Cheapest price elsewhere online was around £245 delivered.
Its a lot better built than the Candy and the water empties at the top, which is easier. You can also connect the water outlet directly to a drain if you have one nearby which looks quite handy. Door is reversable unlike the Candy and its also a sensor dryer, so you just turn it on and it automatically turns off when the clothes are dry.
First impressions after a few days of using it are good. And the sensor drying seems to work.

I have just bought a Hoover Condensor 199 plus delivery of comet.com (comet direct) We ordered it sunday was here today. They took the very old one! and the delivery guys were really helpful.
It is quite basic in design, water tray is at the bottom but easy to get to and empty. The drum is 7.5kg capacity so can fit loads of stuff in! Very simple to use, not to many fiddly buttons etc..
I have only had it one day! but so far i am impressed!!!

Candy acquired Hoover in 1995 and many of the tumble dryers are effectively the same model, but with slightly different styling.
So after our experiences with the Candy, we discounted a Hoover dryers when looking for a replacement.

Well I have a candy and it's great and for the price I paid I won't grumble if it packs up after three years! I had a whirlpool one before, and it was nothing but trouble. It was expensive to buy, it was delivered faulty, the repairman couldn't repair it, so they sent another, that lasted three months before it died. It was repaired again and managed to last a whole two years!
I personally wouldn't have one with a sensor, as it doesn't always work with towels or more absorbent items.0 -

I was looking on LXDirect today, for my sister who is looking to replace her broken Candy dryer.
The Creda TCR2 is on offer at the moment, which with the discount codes on the LXDirect forum (10% & £13 off) works out at about £170 delivered, which seems a good price.
The TCR2 is basically the same as the one we have just bought, but without the sensor drying.0 -
