How to get a price for selling metal?

Hi all,
I am likely to have to replace my entire heating system in the next few weeks.
With the new installation is likely to be the disposal of a hot water cylinder, cast iron bath and metres and metres of copper piping, some very large others more standard widths. The pipes run along a 5 bed large house to all the radiators. Plus 9 radiators, one very old radiator towel rail and an old boiler.
Would any one have any idea how I go about getting the value for scrap, also how I go about scrapping the metal? The gleam in the plumbers eyes when they come round tells me there is value, as do my friends.
Many thanks

There have been a number of copper piping thefts in the news so I imagine it's worth something, though probably not a fortune. I'd say it's worth a go. Google scrap metal companies in your area and get a few quotes maybe?0

It will be WELL worth your time selling the old copper pipe and cylinder. While you're at it you may as well weigh in the radiators but these will be less valuable. I assume that there will be scrap yard or metals dealer somewhere nearby.Forgotten but not gone.0

I agree with googling, find some local scrappies and give them a ring.
Make sure your plumber/heating engineer/whatever knows you want to keep your old copper when you ask for a quote as they usually quote with the intention of taking the scrap for themselves.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
Current prices for 'bright copper' (ie copper that has no other metals with it such as solder etc) is about £5k / tonne or £5 / kilo. However, most copper from ch systems will be weighd in as 'braisery' which is copper with other metals on it such as solder, brass etc. this is worth about £2.5k / tonne or £2.50 / kilo. Light iron (Radiators and other ferrous metal) is currently about £150/tonne or 15p / kilo.
Even the rads and bath are worth taking in as it all adds up.
Also remember that the prices change daily so ring round a few scrappies before taking it in.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Scrap cast iron £180/tonne. Unless the enamel devalues it.1984ReturnsForReal wrote: »Unless your bath is a vintage collectors item its worth penniesHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Good morning: the price of scrap metal (non-ferrous) has dropped significantly this year....current figures here.

The other point to make is phone around the price difference I was quoted was over £1,000/tonne for copper. It is also worth stripping all the nuts, bolts and solder off to sell the copper as clean copper and the rest as mixed brass.0
