charlotte664 wrote:It depends!! Usually at the same place as the place you would attend a tutorial. Some "exams" are able to be taken at home provided you sign a declaration that you have done it under exam conditions, but this does depend on the course.
This info wont be in the prospectus as its too far ahead, but you wont have to go to the actual university itself in Milton Keynes, so don't worry!
It's usually level 1 courses that have the 'home exam' - it's more commonly referred to as a timed assignment. Levels 2 and 3 have either exams (which you sit at a regional centre or like another poster said, at the school/college/adult ed centre you attend tutorials) or an ECA (end of course assignment, which I think is kind of like a dissertation).0 -
I am half way through an OU degree at present. As long as you are disciplined and relate evrything back to the materials used it is pretty much OK. I had a fabulous tutor for level 1 Health and Social Care and got a distinction. Then I did Working with Young People and got the worst tutor ever. We all complained about him as he wasn't returning assignmenst etc. I only went to 1 tutorial and still managed to get a 2. Both courses had exams held in the City Centre. I wouldn't say I broke my neck to work on either course and I am the same again this year but I am still doing quite well.0

I am about to begin another round, when I raise the money that is. I'm doing a Certificate in Web Applications Development and maybe continue to a degree.
I'd love to take a design course, I work designing logos, business cards etc in my 'spare' time - I'm registered self employed for that work. I'd love to learn more all I know is self taught really. I don't think the OU have any courses for graphic design though. Shame.0 -
I have an OU degree in Psychology. I found the early credits didn't require too much hard work, but the later ones had plenty of research-based elements and were quite taxing.
OU psychology degrees are very well regarded, as good at least as most from conventional universities. I keep toying with the idea of doing a law degree now, just for fun
Don't forget, from next month you can pay for your OU courses with Tesco Clubcard deals :T0 -

Any advice or comments greatly appreciated

I did some years back. It was engineering based and i recall spending around 20 hours a week on it and that was with a full time job. Hard work but worth it and i thoroughly enjoyed it.
It encouraged me to do many other things since. employers like it as well as it demonstrates motivation especialy if you are already working. Best of luck with it.0 -
I was doing life science based courses, it was very good and certainly taught me some good organisation skills. I had to transfer to a brick uni though becauses the courses weren't specific enough for the institute of biomedical sciences, I am now getting awesome results because I have developed skills in self motivation!! I hope it pays off as I've taken a wage cut so I can attend the brick uni one day a week.:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea
