government's proposal to introduce road pricing

Sign and pass it on. it only takes a minute.

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to
purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.
The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC,
the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery
driver.
A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in
one month.
On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will
know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been
going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a
NIP with your monthly bill.
If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car
driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

Please pass this on to anyone who owns a car/motorcycle. It affects them.

I signed it, so did about 100 other people in the 2 - 3 mins it took me to sign up.

I propose civil disobediance, everyone should refuse to buy the equipment and refuse to pay any fines etc.

It's lucky that walking is free - after all, she has the time :p

I'll sign it anyway, it's the spying thing that annoys me more. It would seem far easier to stick 50p on a litre of petrol and get rid of road tax.

You can if you want to spread the word, copy the message and email it to friends.
The Deadline to sign up for the petition is 20 February 2007 –
  • I'm not opposed to road pricing...if it was applied sensibly (not much chance of that from this govt) but it should be done only on some roads and some times....there is no fairness in taxing a 'country country' road in the early hours. The problem is that this govt sees any solution to any problem as a chance to claw in more money for other things (their own perks and pensions....eg...) and then wonder why it gets no support.
....Damned if I'm going to pay for the device myself though.
