Want new heating, which form to go for?
Hi all, I currently have storage heating and am thinking about having new heating installed. I currently dont have gas but can get it installed easily enough for a cost as the road does have it. I am not sure if to go for GCH or a heat source option like an air source heating system. Is there much difference in initial costing as well as long term running cost. I am assuming the air source would be cheaper long term but interested in all options. Not sure if this is the best section of the forum for this thread.

ASHP is best suited to underfloor heating, can you install that? Otherwise low temp rads are required.
Rather depends on the cost of getting the gas connection in.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Underfloor heating is not really an option I dont think. Gas connection is quoted at £604.00. Many thanks for your response.0

That's a very reasonable sum to get away from E7 then.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks again. Having spent the last few hours researching my initial thoughts are to go with GCH. Will start a new thread now as I want to know if I have a new connection and get a meter installed by prefered supplier how long is it ok to leave the connection. I want the gas connection etc done soonish before any costs go up but dont want the GCH itself installed for some time after. Need to save a few more pennies. Not sure if this is a sensible option or if I should wait and get it all done when I can afford to. Paranoid that National Grid will increase their prices. Also like to think I am at least doing something in getting the heating sorted. Even though it's part of a job. Any thoughts?0

ASHP is quite expensive, and may not meet the price of gas in all/most installations.Underfloor heating is not really an option I dont think. Gas connection is quoted at £604.00. Many thanks for your response.
Replacement costs of the heatpump, if it goes wrong in a decade, say, is likely to be much higher too.
Technically, the cheapest way would be to run the heatpump on economy 7 into a thermal store.
But this is going to be extremely expensive initially, and is not something that's typically available.
As always - if considering a heatpump, consider any possible insulation measures first.0 -
Thanks, thinking I will be going for gas although think I have decided to go for the gas connection closer to the time of installation. Any more thoughts welcome.0
