The problem with the PSU and retrieving the data....

I currently ran the old PC running two RAID 0+1 solutions via two 2x250GB SATA drives. One pair works fine and no issues.

The other pair, one drives appears to be recognised individually but the other does not even though it appears to power up. It would appear that the array is not being detected and the options via F10 on POST detects an error but only gives me an option to delete, which I assume not to do in fear of losing the data. There is a “R” to rebuild, but it appears to do nothing. Via Windows (ver 7, x64), the drives are not detectable, shown here.

Other than the BIOS, I do not have any NVidia software that can try and potentially resolve the issue.!

What can I do?

How about taking the disks out and testing them individually - probably a dead disk somewhere.

Did so: both power up with one working OK individually via a USB to SATA cable but the other does not appear to be recognised.

I just changed the control baord on it as the sata socket broke off. Maybe that is the problem?

Changed the control board on the hard drive? That won't work.

Or swapped the USB caddy to see if the non-working disk is working in the working caddy?
It sounds like the disk has packed in.

I had to change the control/circuit board as the sata cable wouldn't stay in place with the plastic "L" socket broken off.

I can hear it power up and spin....v odd

It may power up with a new control board but I am pretty sure it will not recover the disk for you.
The inside platters need to swapped to an identical disk with a working control board - thats a task for someone experienced and who has the right equipment and working environment.
If you swap the control boards alone, the inside bits are no longer compatible somehow withe control board.

I swapped it with a circuit board from an identical hard drive, namely an IBM Hitachi Deskstar 250GB SATA.

Didnt work but put the old on again and did a cowboy conenction and its now recognisable with Windows.

Gonna try with GetData's RecoverMyFiles and attach both HDDs via USB. Just need to buy another USB to IDE/SATA!

Be quick and get the data recovered and onto a safe disk quick :-)
