Buying a house at the end of Feb advice please

Hi

I’m buying a house at the end of feb, exchange end of Jan completion end of feb. I really wanted some advice really, what would be the best way to find the cheapest utility suppliers and get them to be the utilities (gas elec) for the new house. I'm currently living with my folks so I have no supplier to switch to I know there are website such as uswitch but can I use them.

Also thinking about switching to water meter, as it's just two of us living in the new house I think we will be using too much water so I thought meter may be best. The current water rate is £488 for the house which I think is a bit steep.. should I or should I not?? Does any one know the procedure to getting a water meter? Pros and cons please. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

We're with Southern Water, 2 bed semi, Same charges as you. If you'd like a meter installed, it's free, and you can change your mind before a year of having it is up. Just ask your supplier. You can average out how much water you will use, they have calculators on their sites.

We lived in a house with a meter briefly and as a family of four and me beign a total shower freak, I think we use a lot of water.:o

It was £133 for the four months we lived there. Going by the fact there's just two of you, you'll probably save money, though I have heard there is still a minimum charge on a water meter so some people still pay more than they should.

The house we are buying has a water meter - dread to think what our water bill will be (family of 4). We are paying £50 per month now for a 3 bed terrace with no meter, and are moving to a 3 bed semi. Unfortunately South West Water have the highest charges in the country so it is feasible that our water bill could be more than our electricity bill over the month..
